Funeral Planning Authority People

Directors of the Funeral Planning Authority Ltd.

The Authority has six directors:-

  • The shareholders of the Authority, namely the Funeral Planning Council (FPC) and the National Association for Pre- Paid Funeral Plans (NAPFP) each nominate not more than 2 directors.
  • FPC and NAPFP, acting jointly, with the approval of the nominated directors, appoint 2 further directors, one of whom shall be an independent Chairman of the Board and the other the Chief Executive.

Sandy MacDonald, Chairman

Retired, after a senior management career in several companies including in the funeral profession for almost 20 years. He has held a number of senior appointments, including National President of the Funeral Standards Council and of the Cooperative Funeral Managers Association. He was a co-founder of the Funeral Planning Council and the Funeral Ombudsman Scheme.

Stuart Harland, Chief Executive

Has held several senior banking appointments in the UK, most recently being joint general manager of a large Japanese bank with responsibilities for its operations and development in Europe, Middle East and Africa. His banking track record brings management skills and a wide experience of regulation and compliance to the FPA. He is also a professional mediator of commercial and neighbourhood disputes. He was appointed Chief Executive of the FPA in April 2004.

Ronnie Wayte, Managing Director, Golden Charter

Ronnie Wayte has been Managing Director of Golden Charter since 2007 during
which period it has enjoyed its greatest growth. This is his second role as Managing
Director of an organisation. Prior to that he occupied senior roles in ScottishPower,
Saatchis, John Menzies and Shell

Ian Mackie, Director

Formally a master mariner then spending 20 years in senior marketing and management positions within UK retail, has now seen the 'socially responsible' light, and is a Managing Director in the Co-operative Group responsible for the running of the Co-operative Funeral Pre-payment plans division.

Michael McCollum, Director

Was a practicing solicitor, who then worked in the City of London in a corporate finance environment. He joined Dignity Limited in 1995, subsequently becoming a director whose role now includes responsibility for its funeral pre-arrangement subsidiary.

Graham Williams, Director

Has 21 years experience of services for older people and funeral pre-payment plans: previously Head of Marketing with Age Concern England, then Marketing Manager with Chosen Heritage Ltd, now Managing Director of Funeral Planning Services Ltd. and Chairman of the National Association for Pre-paid Funeral Plans.

 

COMPLIANCE COMMITTEE

The Articles of Association of the Authority require the Directors to appoint a Compliance Committee of 3 independent persons,

  • to consider applications for registration
  • to monitor Registered Providers' compliance with the Rules and Code of Practice of the Authority; and
  • to investigate complaints and allegations of misconduct made against Registered Providers.

The members of the Committee are:

Clive Newton,Chairman

A non-practising Barrister and Chartered Certified Accountant, he has many years involvement in consumer affairs including in the Office of Fair Trading where he was Director of Consumer Affairs from 1980 to 1986, and as Head of Consumer Affairs Division of the Department of Trade & Industry from 1986 to 1991. He has been independent Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the National Association of Funeral Directors since 1994 and until 2002 occupied a similar role for NAPFP.

Christopher Eadie

Enrolled as a solicitor in Scotland, and is a Chartered Secretary. He was a legal officer in the Royal Air Force between 1958- 89, prosecuting, advising formations and giving legal assistance to individuals. He was Director of RAF Legal Services at HQ RAF Germany and at Air Headquarters Cyprus and President, Royal Air Force Football Referees. Association 1985-89. He was the Deputy Banking Ombudsman 1991-2000

Pam Hurley

Holds a B.A. (Econ) from Manchester University and became an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers. She has more than 25 years experience of risk management in the banking industry, and has developed risk identification, monitoring and control processes for Citibank and NatWest Bank to meet UK and European regulatory requirements.
